Research and Developement

- a deciding factor for a good course

Since Narvik University College has close collaborative ties with the business- and research communities both in Norway and abroad, students have the opportunity of participating in research and development projects which have a significant bearing upon their education. The College considers this so important that it cannot envisage higher education without this.

Narvik University College has used substantial resources to facilitate research through large international projects and partners. The college has several known academics who are editors or member of editorial groups spanning 14 journals. This is a large number for the relatively small academic environment we have here in Narvik. Through deliberate measures to achieve this, Narvik University College has managed to attain a strongly recognised status.

Research through recognised academic groups contributes to a pertinent qualification and good supervision for project- and masters theses. The strong research and development environment at the College has also attracted highly qualified and competent researchers to Narvik.

The efforts in research and development within the technological fields have produced good results. This has contributed a great deal to the technological development we see both in Narvik and this part of the country. Nordkraft, Heatwork, Natech, Funn IT and REC Scancell are companies that can be mentioned in this respect.

In the field of computer games, the College has extensive collaboration with Funcom, Norway’s largest games producer. Together, the College and FunCom have sought funding for a larger collaborative project. Through the College’s collaborative partners in Norway and abroad, the students gain first hand knowledge of the absolute latest technology that’s happening on the computer games front, globally, long before it’s out on the market. At the same time, they get to make contacts with central individuals through collaborative projects and conferences across the whole world. This is just one example of the opportunities that can arise though good partnerships within research and development.
